Newton’s Law of Conservation of Energy
Newton Running Shoes are known by runners as great lightweight, cushioned footwear designed to mimic the advantages of barefoot running. But did you know that this Colorado-based company also practices environmentally-friendly best practices in their shoes and packaging?
Their shoebox is produced from 100% post consumer waste and uses soy-based inks and an aqueous (water-based) coating. Their packaging can also be easily broken down for recycling and is produced close to the footwear factory for a smaller carbon footprint. Instead of tissue paper, Newton uses recycled cardboard inserts that are scraps from their shoebox die-cut.
The shoes offer 100% recycled yam shoe laces and 100% recycled webbing. The outsole has a minimum ot 10% recycled rubber too.
Aside from the “green” product and packaging, the company is also quite socially responsible. They raise and donate lots of funds for multiple organizations. For example, they are donating 1% of all footwear sales to Athletes for a Cure, an organization aimed at improving treatments and a finding a cure for prostate cancer.
Due to all their efforts, Newton Running is our “Green Shopaholic” company of the week.
